A Deep Desire to Let God Lead!
Lean on, trust in, and be confident in the Lord with all your heart and mind and do not rely on your own insight or understanding. Proverbs 3:5 (AMP)
There is much that could be said about learning to trust God in more and more areas of our lives. I remember when I was a senior in High School and was getting a deep peace that I was to start my college years at Ottawa University. I am a preacher’s kid who grew up from modest means, so while I didn’t understand all of why God was giving me this peace, I sent in the needed fee from my own saved funds. Then about a month before school would start, I shared at supper that I would be going to Ottawa to school in the fall. My mother asked me how I was going to pay for it. Private non-state-funded schools are more expensive than state schools (tuition, lodging, etc.,).
My response was to silently fold my hands in a posture of prayer. My wise, practical mom said “That’s not going to pay the bills.” But guess what, even though I knew the financial package I was being offered would not cover the cost of attending school there, nor could Mom and Dad, I finished my freshman year without borrowing money. This passage above reminds me now of what I was feeling then. To make a long story short, I got a job the first place I applied and paid of what I owed the college in monthly installments.
I share that story not to toot my own horn, but in the hope that I will point more people toward God. The more we give every area of our life to God, the better! Why, because it’s not about me, it’s all about God! My prayer that when others look, listen and follow me, that they will find a humble man whose strength, wisdom and hope comes from following Jesus and they will want to do the same!
